Week 6: Intermediate Channel Islands Camping

YAAAAAARRG!! Feeling islandish? Are you looking to sail the high seas on the Jolly Roger (Island Packers ferry) in search of buried treasure (the Channel Islands)? Join Sailingtheoceanseas Orion and Questfortreasure Quintin on a long weekend INTERMEDIATE Camping trip! We’ll be hitting the road on Friday and camping in Morro Bay before setting sail (taking a ferry) Saturday morning. Once ashore, we will ransack Santa Cruz Island, the largest island of the Channel Islands. The legends of the “Galapagos of North America” have foretold of beautiful islands, hundreds of unique plant and animal species, and stunning coastline everywhere you gaze. We’ll be embarking on a quest including beach time, epic sunsets, hiking, and good grub. On Sunday we will be hiking the plank to Smuggler’s Cove (that’s actually what it’s called), a 7-8 mile hike with low elevation, as well as some other shorter jaunts around the island. This trip requires INTERMEDIATE pirate proficiency due to the length of the trip and hikes. Once our cutthroat crew conquers the curse of the Channel Islands, we will get back to the schooner Monday morning and set sail with our spoils and stories of swashbuckling with scallywags. We will have you back at campus with the landlubbers on Monday night. Grab your peg legs, eye patches, and hooks and get ready to plunder! Tickets will be 175 doubloons, but reach out to jrouth@scu.edu if you’d like to request financial aid. This trip is also application based in order to reserve ferries ASAP and figure out what time to leave on Friday. Ahoy mateys!!!
